An Abandoned Glass Of Wine

More often than we realize, the universe floats us little pieces of a larger whole. Perspective on that whole could be called wisdom. You may not remember or understand the pieces until years later, but in hindsight what matters is that they were there.

This photo was taken in Whistler on a rainy fall day much like today. Not enough snow yet, no work, and a bit of depression rising from hanging around indoors too much. The opportune moment for a photo walk.

I didn’t understand this message then, but when this shot crossed my path the other day, I perceived its essence with total clarity. I feel the same energy that motivated someone to paint this on the hood of their car, and I want to thank them for their perspective.

“Even if the absence of government really meant anarchy in the negative disorderly sense of that word – which is far from being the case – even then no anarchical disorder could be worse than the position to which governments have already led their peoples, and to which they are leading them.”

Tonight I reached a level of understanding with another person that I did not believe was possible. I believe that many people never reach such a deep understanding with anyone in their lives, but I might believe that because this person is far more difficult to understand than most, and my insight puts me in incredibly privileged company.

What you learn at the deepest level of a person isn’t easy to come by. There is a price paid like anything else, and the price is steep. What you discover will be something you cannot imagine, because up until that point there was only one person you related to at that depth, yourself.

You do not learn of any fundamental good or evil. You see with the most complete clarity who they are, and when you realize who someone truly is, you realize only one thing.

They are beautiful.
